Hospitals in Beijing E-Town ensure medical needs of children with flu

Updated: 2023-03-13

Seasonal flu is on the rise, and topics related to "H1N1 flu" frequently appear on social media platforms such as Weibo. There has been an increase in the number of children seeking medical attention for the flu.

To ensure the medical needs of these children, two hospitals have taken measures, such as increasing the number of "Twilight Outpatient" clinics and adding waiting areas, to enhance their clinical services.

Every day after 8 a.m., many parents can be seen in the lobby on the first floor of the outpatient building of Beijing Aiyuhua Maternity and Child Health Hospital.

Waiting crowds also gather at the hospital's pediatric reception desk, waiting area, blood collection room, and treatment room. Additional staff are stationed at the self-service registration machine to provide guidance, and several sets of sofas were added to the waiting area.

The hospital's pediatric outpatient department saw a peak in the number of children with flu seeking medical attention in the last week of February. There is a daily maximum of over 410 patients reported, 50 percent of whom were H1N1 flu patients.

In response, the hospital has focused its treatment on the emergency department and pediatric outpatient department, with the full cooperation of internal medicine, imaging, testing, pharmacy, infection control, medical affairs, nursing, and all hospital staff to ensure the treatment of flu patients during the flu season.

Queuing for medical attention is also observed on the second-floor pediatric department of Beijing Tongren Hospital Yizhuang Branch. The hospital's pediatric department has recently seen a daily maximum of over 700 patients, a 5-10 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
